Make your summer brilliant by choosing from a variety of fun and innovative offerings for boys and girls age 4 to grade 12. Special interest camps cover everything under the summer sun, including arts, athletics, academics, STEM and so much more! We allow for flexibility with half-day and full-day sessions plus extended day and lunch.

Note: Camp is closed on June 19, July 4 and July 5. Fees will be prorated for those weeks to reflect the shorter schedule.

  • Young Explorers (JK - Gr. 1)

    Rich experiences and activities created for little ones age 4 to rising grade 1.

    Young Explorers Day Camp celebrates the younger child’s inherent curiosity and urge to play. With an emphasis on independence, children learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing and hearing. Boys and girls age (4) to rising grade 1 are grouped by age and led by a certified teacher and an assistant to explore our discovery stations at their own level and pace. The uniquely designed environment stimulates learning, movement, and social interaction. 

    Grades: Boys & girls age 4 years - rising grade 1. Children must have turned 4 years old by the first day of camp, June 17, 2024 and fully potty trained.

  • Let's Set Sail with Whales and Tales (grades 1-2)

    Let's Set Sail with Whales and Tales 
    Rising first and second graders, join us for a weeklong ocean adventure! Did you know earth is called the blue planet? Or that the blue whale is the largest animal in the world? We will learn about the wonders of sea life through a variety of engaging activities. Young adventurers will dive into literacy in the morning by using their reading, spelling and writing skills. In the afternoon we will have a whale of a time with math games, and our young scientists will use inquiry-based learning for STEM labs. Arts and crafts will be incorporated throughout the entire session!

    A traditional day camp with a variety of activities and experiences. Classic Camp is a great opportunity for team building and recreational fun. There will be indoor and outdoor activities including games, physical play and arts and crafts.  Lunch is included with full days.

    Budding detectives will learn simple detection techniques, strengthen critical thinking and investigative skills, and decipher clues to solve mysteries.

  • Let's Go to the Movies

    Students will experience what it is like to create a silent movie. From script writing, acting, and choosing appropriate music, students will be collaborating together to create their own silent movie. In addition, they will have the chance to play along with a silent movie. (Improvising, composing, playing a piece they currently know how to play, and/or choosing an appropriate soundtrack). Students will also learn the history of the film music industry and popular film composers. There will be lots to listen and watch for as they figure out what soundtracks are appropriate to use in certain scenes. They will see what goes on behind the scenes in music and why it plays such a vital role in the movie industry. And so much more!

    It’s a “Swiftie Summer” at St. Catherine’s! Embrace your girl power era and rock out for the week! We'll conclude the week with an Era’s Tour Dance party!

  • Chinese Art, Language and Culture 

    Experience a hands-on approach to the art, language and culture of ancient and modern China. Learn how to speak and write in Mandarin Chinese and use traditional materials to create Asian inspired arts and crafts. Also learn to count in Chinese and how to use a Chinese calculator called an “abacus.”

  • Writing the College Application Essay

    Tackling the college application essay has never been this easy or effecient! By the end of the session, students will have several drafts that could be used for topics that colleges predictably assign. Busy sports and academic schedules, multiple applications, and responsibilities during the school year are fine when students can save time over the summer with an experienced St. Catherine's faculty member, Jenny Watkins.

  • Page to Stage Theatre Camp

    A two-week, developmental theatre-arts camp for students in grades 5-8. Campers will play, create, collaborate, and help write their very own show. The first week will focus on the creative process and the creation of the piece, and the second week will concentrate on rehearsing and working on their show. No audition or previous theatre experience is required for participants. Showcase performance at the end.

    Creative writers will enjoy this class as they learn about famous poets, experience various genres of poetry, and compose their own poetry.     Learn to use a pattern and sewing machine to make colorful, simple dresses to send to girls who might have never had a new dress of their own. Dresses will be donated to the Dress a Girl Around the World program of Hope 4 Women International. Class time may go towards community service hours.

  • Writing the College Application Essay

    Tackling the college application essay has never been this easy or efficient! By the end of the session, students will have several drafts that could be used for topics that colleges predictably assign. Busy sports and academic schedules, multiple applications, and responsibilities during the school year are fine when students can save time over the summer with an experienced St. Catherine's faculty member.

    Under the guidance of VCU Hall of Famer and head varsity coach Ed Sherod, assistant coaches and varsity players,  you will work on all aspects of the game: shooting, ball handling, passing, rebounding and defense. Through drills and games you will learn these skills to improve your game and to learn how to continue improvement throughout the year with your own workouts.
