College Counseling

Well Prepared
St. Catherine's students are well prepared for college and are admitted to many highly-selective colleges and universities. These alumnae attend Ivy League schools, large state universities, small liberal arts colleges, women’s institutions, art colleges and everything in between. To help each student find the college or university that best suits her unique talents and interests, an in-depth college counseling process begins during the ninth grade year. During the eleventh grade year, each student is assigned to one of the college counselors who will become her advocate and guide her during the complex application and admission process. Our College Counselors encourage the girls and their parents to compile a list of possible schools and then narrow the list down as the application time draws near. Admissions officers from more than 100 colleges and universities come to our campus to meet our students.

The Process
College counseling at St. Catherine’s includes plenty of one-on-one meetings, with and without parents, during which the counselor helps the student articulate what she wants out of her college experience. The counselor adds to each student's list of prospective schools by recommending colleges that the student may not be familiar with but that meet the student's criteria. Technology is an integral part of the process as well. St. Catherine’s uses the web-based program Naviance to help manage the data for each student’s college search — where she is applying, her grades, scores and recommendations, and where she is in the process at each school. Naviance also gives students access to their target schools’ SAT and GPA ranges, and how many St. Catherine’s students have been accepted there in the past. Each student has a password-protected Naviance account which is accessible to her, her parents and the college counselors.

The College Counseling offices are located in the Arcade, just off of the Green, between Ellett and Bacot. Stop in for a visit!
