Judge Talks to Upper School About Civility
The Honorable Hannah Lauck is the second speaker in the Camp Speakers Endowment at St. Catherine's and St. Christopher's.
The Honorable Hannah Lauck has learned many lessons during her time in the courtroom. One of those is very simple – yet incredible valuable for everyone.
“Talking to people different than me has made me a much better person,” Lauck told Upper School students last week. “It will do so for you as well.”
Lauck, a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and a current St. Catherine’s parent, spoke with Upper School students last week as part of the Camp Speakers Endowment.
She talked to the entire Upper School student body in the afternoon and met with smaller groups throughout the day including Model Judiciary. Lauck visited history, government and bioethics classes in the Upper School.
The Camp Speakers Endowment was created in memory of St. Christopher’s alum Paul Douglas Camp III ’56. His daughter Elizabeth Hanson graduated from St. Catherine’s in 1984. The Speakers Endowment was inspired by Paul’s devotion to his family, to education and to the community. Although Paul Camp was a dedicated servant of many organizations, above all he valued education and the strong foundation in service and character embodied in St. Christopher’s and St. Catherine’s Schools.
In addition to talking about the court system and how her courtroom operates, Lauck talked to the girls about Internet protocol, civility, ethics and why the court system works.
