Richmond Times-Dispatch: Historic St. Catherine's softball season ends in VISAA title game loss to Bishop O'Connell
DINWIDDIE — Alice Kottkamp of St. Catherine’s remembers in 2021 when she was an eighth-grader at the school, new to the Saints‘ softball program and how they won just two games that year.
Now a senior, and looking at her career in totality, Kottkamp beamed while thinking about how much St. Catherine’s has grown. Even though the Saints fell to state power Bishop O’Connell 1-0 in the VISAA Division I title game Friday afternoon at Dinwiddie Sports Complex, she felt nothing but gratitude for what the program has accomplished.
“I’m just lucky to be here, honestly,” Kottkamp said. “My eighth-grade year, we won two games. My freshman year, we won three games. We’ve never been to the state championship before, and that was pretty awesome.
