  • At what age can girls first apply to St. Catherine’s?

    • In order to enroll in our Early Learners Program, a girl must be three years old by September 30 of the entering school year. That typically means applying the year before when the child is two years old.
    • In order to enroll in our Jr. Kindergarten Program, a girl must be four years old by September 30 of the entering school year That typically means applying the year before when the child is three years old.
    • In order to enroll in our Kindergarten Program, a girl must be five years old by September 30 of the entering school year. That typically means applying the year before when the child is four years old.
  • What are main entry grades at St. Catherine’s?

    • We have the most availability for student enrollment in our Early Learners, Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten grade levels.
    • All other grade levels admit students based on available space. 
  • Is there an admission test?

    • Early Learners applicants complete an admissions screening.
    • Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten applicants complete an abilities assessment (WPPSI-IV) and a readiness assessment.
    • Grades 1-8 applicants take an age-appropriate abilities assessment (WISC-V) and an achievement test, which varies by grade level.
    • Upper School applicants take the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test).
  • When is the application deadline?

    Applications are accepted beginning in September of the previous year to the applicant’s entering year and should be submitted no later than January 31, 2019 to receive an admissions decision in the first round of consideration. Applications submitted after January 31 will be considered under a rolling admissions policy.
  • What are the school hours?

    Early Learners (Age 3): 
    Monday-Thursday: 7:55 a.m.-3 p.m.
    Friday: 7:55 a.m.-2:15 p.m. 
    Drop-off: 7:30 a.m. with Optional After-School Care until 6 p.m.

    Junior Kindergarten-Grade 2
    Monday-Thursday: 7:55 a.m.-3 p.m.
    Friday: 7:55 a.m.-2:15 p.m.

    Grades 3-4
    Monday-Thursday: 7:55 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
    Friday: 7:55 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

    Grades 5-12
    Monday-Friday: 7:55 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Is lunch provided?

    • Early Learners through grade 2 students bring their own lunch and beverage.
    • Our lunch program is available for students in grades 3-12 five days a week.
    • Lunch is optional for students in grades 3-8 and available for an additional fee. Students who choose to bring their own lunch can purchase a beverage-only plan.
    • For grades 9-12, lunch is included in the student fee, and students may eat at either St. Catherine’s or St. Christopher’s.
    • A variety of choices are available including hot entrees, sides, full-scale salad and sandwich bars with many locally-sourced items, fresh fruit, soups and dressings made from scratch, as well as a variety of beverages.
    • Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available and dessert is served twice a week.
  • Do St. Catherine’s students wear uniforms?

    St. Catherine’s has a dress code and encourages girls to dress in attire conducive to learning. Lower School students do wear specific attire when participating in school field trips.
  • Is St. Catherine’s School religiously affiliated?

    St. Catherine’s School is an Episcopal School in Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia (CSDV). We recognize the unique gifts and potential of each person and welcome students from all faith traditions. Learn more about spiritual life at St. Catherine's.
  • What are St. Catherine's after-school offerings?

    • After-school care for Early Learners (age 3) students is available up until 6 p.m. in the same space as their learning day. Families may select from one of three pick-up times. 
    • After-school care for students in JK-grade 8 is available through our coordinated after-school program called “Extended Day” that is held at St. Christopher’s. There various schedule options available.
    • Lower School Clubhouse -junior kindergarten-grade 4 girls can continue to explore, learn and grow after the school bell. Families may select Tuesdays and/or Thursdays up to 6 p.m., with sessions taking places throughout the school year on days when school is in session. Parents with daughters in junior kindergarten-grade 4 may choose Clubhouse participation with or without Extended Day enrollment.

  • Does St. Catherine's have a brother school?

    St. Catherine’s has a coordinate program with our brother school St. Christopher’s, which is located a couple of blocks away. This allows students at different grade levels the opportunity to connect on each campus throughout the year. As students move into Middle School, many programs such as music and theatre are coed. In the Upper School, we are fully coordinated with St. Christopher’s, with the girls and boys attending classes on both campuses, allowing for numerous opportunities for co-educational experiences.
  • Does St. Catherine’s offer scholarships?

    St. Catherine’s offers need-based financial aid to those families who qualify. Learn more about affording a St. Catherine's education.
