St. Catherine’s senior Grace Wielar had her team’s only win of the day — finishing the 200 freestyle in 1:53.40 — but she also added a school record in the 100 backstroke (57.17) that earned her third place.
“All of our swimmers work really hard, and I think our work ethic sets us apart,” Wielar said. “Going into this, we knew there would be stiff competition, but the ultimate goal was to get that back-to-back championship.”
In the absence of first-place finishes, the Saints had to rely on their numbers to win the championship.
“Depth was the key. We have depth everywhere right now,” coach Stuart Ferguson said.
