Fifth Grader Wins Chopped Junior

Emmy Sumpter won $10,000 on the Food Network show.
Fifth grader Emmy Sumpter knows her way around the kitchen — and now she has a championship title to prove it!
Sumpter was a winner on Food Network’s Chopped Junior, which aired Oct. 10. She wowed the judges with dishes such as chorizo corn dog meatballs, steak and zucchini kabobs with cake pop cream and raspberry fudge s’mores.
Sumpter plans to use part of her  $10,000 prize money to help feed local homeless people in Monroe Park.
The show was actually filmed in January in New York City. Sumpter and her family couldn’t even share that she was on the show until one week before it aired — and they could not share the results.
The Middle School celebrated Sumpter before the Girls Innovate event the morning after the show aired. She was greeted with thunderous applause, cheering and a standing ovation.
