St. Catherine's Celebrates 125 Years of Educating Girls

Party Through the Decades pays tribute to St. Catherine's history of educating girls.
Guests took a stroll through 125 years and beyond as they celebrated St. Catherine’s 125th anniversary at the Party Through the Decades.
Nearly 900 guests attended the celebration at St. Catherine’s School, which paid tribute to Virginia Randolph Ellett’s vision to start a girls’ school in 1890.
Guests entered the party in the 1890s with Upper School students dressed in period costumes to greet them and student singers preforming Jerusalem, the alma mater and period songs.
Everyone then entered into Bacot Hall and the Bacot Reception room, representing the 1920s with a jazz band performing. Next was the 1950s in the Café with a replica of Doc White’s and the Bellini Sisters performing on a stage. The 1970s followed in the main Dining Hall with Sonny and Cher impersonators entertaining guests.
Finally, guests made their way to the Green where a massive tent brought everyone into the future of the School. Affirmative Grove provided the entertainment. Fireworks highlighted St. Catherine’s future as guests celebrated the School’s illustrious past.
“This weekend was nothing short of magical, and I am ever grateful to the countless volunteers, donors, faculty and staff who worked tirelessly to make all of this possible for our School family,” Head of School Terrie Hale Scheckelhoff said.
The Party Through the Decade Co-Chairs are Cal Jennison and Suzanne Wishnack Morris ’89 and Celebrate 125 are Co-Chairs Helen Nunley and Biz Elder Read ’89. A variety of sponsors made generous donations to help make the event a success.
