St. Catherine's Represented in Nutcracker

St. Catherine’s students are well represented in the 2012 production of The Nutcracker.

At the curtain call of the Richmond Ballet’s Nutcracker this year St. Catherine’s students will anxiously await their time to shine. Following the trend of recent years, St. Catherine’s students are well represented in the 2012 production.

The Nutcracker tells the tale of young girl named Clara, who dreams of a Nutcracker prince. Through expressive dancing, elaborate set changes and beautiful costumes her dream unfolds into a beautiful story.

The cast is divided into the Red Cast and Green Cast. This year’s production marks sixth grader Grace Locke’s fifth year performing in the Nutcracker.

“I love the thrill of going onstage, telling a story to the audience, and expressing myself through the movements, gestures, and facial expressions,” Locke said. “Getting into character is the best. You really start to feel like you’re in a land of sweets, or at a party, or in a battle with mean rats.”

Grace is among 30 St. Catherine’s students performing in this year’s production.

“I really like having a lot of St.Catherine's girls around me during rehearsals and performances,” Grace said. “We are all so close. I couldn't be happier to have my wonderful St.Catherine's community by my side to talk to, to laugh with, and to support whenever we need it.”

The Nutcracker opens tonight at the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage.
