The 66 members of the Class of 2012 became St. Catherine’s newest alumnae on Saturday morning.
St. Catherine’s School celebrated the Class of 2012 on Saturday with the School’s official commencement exercise. On a very hot May day, the 66 members officially became St. Catherine's alumnae. Among the day’s honorees were Kaylin Blount, the June Scholar. She gave her speech about coming to St. Catherine’s as an eighth grader and the lessons her classmates taught her. “My classmates taught me what it means to be a St. Catherine's girl,” Blount said during her speech. “They also taught me St. Catherine's is not just a school, it is family.” Blount sang the praises of her classmates and had a warning for those in attendance. “We are strong enough, smart enough and brave enough to be a success at anything we try to do,” she said. “Keep an eye on these girls, we just might change the world.” Marshall Moore was selected as the June Queen, a long-standing school tradition dating back to founder Virginia Randolph Ellett. June Queen is voted on by students, faculty and staff and is kept secret until it was announced Friday night at the Junior-Senior Banquet. The gift in honor of the Class of 2012 was presented by senior parents Ashley and Edward Farley and Terry and Horace Whitworth. The parents and grandparents gave a gift of more than $1.1 million to name the lobby of the new science center in honor of the Class of 2012. The ceremony concluded with the traditional Daisy Chain on the Green. This beloved tradition marks the transition of leadership from the Class of 2012 to the Class of 2013.
