A special chapel service on Thursday honored the new inductees.
Seven seniors, eight juniors and two faculty members were inducted into the Cum Laude Society during this morning’s annual induction ceremony in Bannard Chapel.
The newest senior members are Spencer Blanton, Kaki Jennison, Sarah Johnson, Amanda Kim, Emily O’Connell, Abigail Rose and Callie Wright.
Members from the junior class are Mary Margaret Allen, MacNair Jennings, Jessie Jennison, Madeline Mallory, Jane McGehee, Rosemary O’Hagan, Kristine Scherger and Anne Szymendera.
Faculty members inducted into the Cum Laude Society are Upper School teachers Dr. Nicole Hood and Dr. Jeff Turner.
“It’s not about being smart,” Mary Davenport Davis ’03 said as she began her speech during the service. Davis reminisced about her time in retired Upper School teacher Dr. Perkin’s Biblical Hebrew class as the time she found her passion for language and learning. She impressed upon students the importance of working hard and “slogging away” because it is in those moments that you find something new, something different that has yet to be discovered.
“It’s about looking for what you love and following where it takes you,” Davis said.
Davis graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of William & Mary with a BA in Religious Students and English, earned a MTS in Biblical Students from the University of Notre Dame and is a candidate for a Ph.D. in Ancient Near Eastern Studies from Harvard University.
