Paying Tribute To Miss Jennie

Middle School students visited the gravesite of founder Miss Jennie on Tuesday.
     On a beautiful sunny Tuesday morning, three Middle School girls made their annual visit to the grave of the School’s founder Virginia Randolph Ellett at Hollywood Cemetery, a Richmond landmark.
     Students Eliza Hollerith, Mallory Bedell and Janie Stillwell were accompanied by interim Head of School Sue Baldwin to pay tribute to the School’s founder, known as Miss Jennie.
     School Archivist Tyler Paul ’77 shared many interesting tidbits about Miss Jennie and her life. Miss Jennie died on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1939.
     A tribute from the St. Stephen’s Church bulletin 73 years ago said:
      “Not only will Miss Jennie always rank as one of the foremost of the great men and women who have do so much for the cause of education, but she will ever be affectionately remembered for her forceful spirit and her graceful manner, as well as her foresight and wisdom and her willingness to sacrifice herself for the School to which she was so devoted and the girls whom she taught and loved.”
     Interim Chaplain Bill Wells concluded the annual outing with the School prayer and Benediction.
