St. Catherine's Beatifies Pope John Paul, 3-0

In a sequel more eagerly anticipated even than Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, the Saints once again fellowshipped with the ladies of Pope John Paul the Great High School at Goochland. Though St. Catherine's emerged victorious in the earlier contest, this was to be a whole other ball of wax. Critics asserted that Dumfries's finest looked a little bigger this time out, though Coach McIntosh would hear none of it, and bade us all refer back to scripture and to the defeat of that infamous Philistine at the hands of the smaller David, armed with only a sling, five stones, and faith.

In a sequel more eagerly anticipated than Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, the Saints once again fellowshipped with the ladies of Pope John Paul the Great High School at Goochland.

Though without any stones, the Saints were armed with Ryley Ogden and Austin Smithers, two tiny projectiles in their own right. The quick footed beguilements of these magical sprites dazzled the Greyhounds, and with the help of our Liquid Smoke, the defensively minded home team managed to keep the Greyhounds off of the track and in the doghouse for the opening minutes. Despite the unleashing of the war machine that included Tiny Dancer, Deutsch Monster ("German Monster" for those of you who don't hail from Salzburg), and The Overallaround, the Saints were unable to score on Pope John Paul.

Looking back now, it is hard to say what sparked the second half barrage of scoring for St. Catherine's. Was it the synchronized dancing of Austin and Ryley, the cheers of a sunglassed goalie in disguise as Crystal Turner, the yawns of the Trapper Keeper desperate for action in her half of the field, the acrostic poems penned by the head coach, or perhaps was it the arrival to the sidelines of a well-heeled gentleman clad in gingham? We may never know. What we do know is that St. Catherine put Pope John Paul in a veritable figure-four leg lock over the final thirty minutes.

Danger and Stuff were responsible for the scoring and played as another kind of John and Paul, harmonizing beautifully together in midfield as the American all-girl version of the Beatles, leaving The Hustler and My Little Pony to hold it down as George and Ringo serving up the assists. Pope John Paul, who the Italians used to refer to as Il Papa, was being soundly beaten and seemed to long for their beloved HOV-lane and a possible convenience stop at a northbound Hardees.

With a couple of conference games on the slate next week, the Saints bounded into their weekend on a high that only a series sweep against a representative from the Vatican can grant. Well played, Saints.
