Upper School Teacher Inspired By President

Cynthia Grier Lotze met Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf over the weekend.
When Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf learned that Cynthia Grier Lotze teaches at an all-girls school, she commended the St. Catherine’s Upper School English teacher.
“She thanked me for my work teaching girls," Lotze said of her meeting with President Sirleaf Saturday night. President Sirleaf addressed a sold-out crowd at the Richmond Forum over the weekend.
Lotze was invited to attend a private dinner given in the President’s honor at the Jefferson before the lecture at the Forum. Following the dinner, Lotze was able to chat with the President and take a photo
Elected in 2005, President Sirleaf places a strong priority on educating girls, the inclusion of women in government and providing women with vocational skills and improving their employment opportunities. She was the first female elected President of an African nation.
“President Sirleaf was a direct and compelling speaker and I was excited to show her my appreciation for the passion she has for education and the work she does on the part of the children of Liberia,” Lotze said.
