Senior Alexa Anderson signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Longwood.
Alexa Anderson always had Longwood University in the back of her mind. It wasn’t her top choice from the start, but something about the school in Farmville, Va. kept grabbing the attention of the St. Catherine’s senior. Then she started talking to St. Catherine’s alumna Page Farmer ‘06, currently a midfielder at Longwood. Suddenly, everything came together for Anderson and she found her school. On Thursday, Anderson signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Lancers lacrosse team. She is among 23 Saints athletes who have advanced to NCAA competition since 2006, including three Class of 2010 athletes who have already made the decision to compete at the Division I level. “Once I visited Longwood, I was totally shocked and found the campus and the people to be much different than I expected,” Anderson said. “From there, all the pieces fell together and the team and coaches were more than inviting. “They have the major of athletic training that I am interested in and overall academically and athletically it fit perfectly.” Anderson is a three-year varsity lacrosse standout for the Saints, earning all-LIS last season. She is captain of both the lacrosse and basketball teams. Both competition on the field and court combined with top academics in the classroom has Anderson confident about her transition to a Division I athletic team. “St. Catherine's has taught me the value of hard work, academically and athletically,” Anderson said. “Through my coaches and teachers I have found wonderful role models that have taught me things such as, hard work, dedication and intensity. “The experiences at St. Catherine's will ultimately help me make the leap to the D1 level and make me not only a successful athlete, but a successful person in all aspects of life.”
