Eighth Graders Learn and Bond at Bay

The entire eighth grade class spent three days at the Chesapeake Bay engaging in educational and bonding activities.
The eighth graders returned on Friday from the annual three-day trip to the Chesapeake Bay. The trip provided interdisciplinary activities as well as time to bond with classmates and grow as individuals.
The students stayed at three different locations on two different islands – Port Isobel Island in Virginia and Smith Island in Maryland. They also traveled to Tangier Island.
Through hands-on activities and lively discussions, Chesapeake Bay Foundation educators demonstrated that even far from urban and agricultural activity, pollution flowing downstream threatens the Bay’s productivity.
The eighth graders experienced the culture, history and ecology of the Bay. The engaged in activities that tied directly to their classroom work such as earth science, biology, chemistry, civics, economics, and government in addition to practicing sustainable conservation and responsible citizenship.
The students will continue to discuss and engage in activities related to the trip during the class time on campus.
