St. Catherine's celebrated Veterans Day on campus with special services and speakers in all three divisions. The Lower School celebrated Veterans Day with a very special chapel. Second, third and fourth graders each sang patriotic songs for the day. The Lower School choir sang "You Are Our Heroes." The speaker was St. Catherine's Arts Department Chair Diego Sanchez. After moving to the U.S. from Colombia, Sanchez joined the Army right out of high school. He served two years of active duty and then four years with the reserves. Sanchez talked about the different branches of the military — including the different mascots and mottos — and shared his journey as an artist. Sanchez as worked at St. Catherine's for 20 years.
The Middle School celebrated veterans day with Commander Tom Gorsuch, USN (Ret), father in law of Middle School Counselor Laura Gorsuch. He talked about life on a submarine and even shared how women are gaining increasing roles in submarines. Gorsuch now assists the Secretary of Defense for Acquisition & Sustainment at the Pentagon. Middle Schools students, faculty and staff wore red poppies in remembrance of our veterans.
The Upper School welcomed veteran Beth Nelson to chapel for a special Veterans Day service. The service included special prayers for Veterans Day as the veterans related to the students, faculty and staff were honored.
