Richmond Times-Dispatch: Track and field: St. Catherine's wins girls VISAA title after placing in all 17 events

After a long, rainy week, the sun finally shone all day on Saturday.
     That was a good thing.
With the clear skies, though, came mid-80’s heat and, to make the day all that more interesting, a steady wind whose gusts topped 20-plus mph.
Not so good for the runners, jumpers, vaulters and throwers who completed their season in the VISAA Division I track and field championship at Sports Backers Stadium.
That said, track athletes are a hardy, resilient lot.
While the conditions might have been less than ideal, they donned their school colors, laced up their spikes, trusted their training and focused on the task at hand.
St. Catherine’s amassed 143 points to win the girls’ championship.
Though the Saints won just three events, they placed in all 17 to finish ahead of Potomac (117) and deny the Panthers a third consecutive state title.
