Great Team Effort

Linda Southworth
The Nansemond-Suffolk team jumped out to a one goal lead a minute and a half after the opening whistle.  Fortunately, our Saints scored the next three goals and took a four goal lead by the end of the first half.  A more determined NSA team came out in the second half, but the Saints rallied and dominated the remainder of the game.  One of the keys was draw control.  Haley Tucker and Lily Damgard, in particular, played a big role in getting draw control and putting immediate pressure on the NSA defense, which opened up opportunities for our attack.  Nine players contributed to the scoring, with more assisted goals (7) than in any other game this year, which is a good indicator of great teamwork.  During the second half, our defense also did a good job of forcing the opposing attack outside, turning them away from goal.  Once again, Townley Neal had a good game with 5 saves.  Scoring results:  Presley Goode (1 goal, 1 assist), Mariah Merhige (1 goal, 1 assist), Grace Jennings (1 goal), Kaitlin Caesar (2 goals), Carmen Manganello (1 goal, 1 assist), Haley Tucker (4 goals, 3 assists), Libbie Warner (1 assist), Juiana Jiranek (1 goal), Temple Moore (1 goal), Emma Williams (1 goal), Kemper Young (1 goal).
