St. Catherine's Names New Head of School

St. Catherine's announced Dr. Terrie Hale Scheckelhoff as the School's eleventh Head of School.
St. Catherine’s School is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Terrie Hale Scheckelhoff as the eleventh Head of School. She brings great insight, extensive research and first-hand experience in the education of girls.
The St. Catherine’s Board of Governors and the Trustees of Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia (CSDV) approved the nomination Thursday morning.
Already, Scheckelhoff is excited to join the St. Catherine’s family.
"Walking across the campus, seeing girls and young women engaged in conversations with other students and faculty members or sitting alone reading, reminded me of the power of girls’ schools," she said. "At St. Catherine’s, girls and young women have the opportunity to discuss meaningful issues, debate challenging material and reflect on their learning.
"I witnessed talented and passionate teachers engaging and inspiring students to do and be their best. The 21st century skills – collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication were evident in the teaching and learning at St. Catherine’s."
Scheckelhoff comes to St. Catherine’s from Columbus (Ohio) School for Girls, where she is in her 32nd year. She currently serves as Associate Head of School, a position she has held since 2000, and has worked in the classroom, admissions and administration during her time at CSG.
A national presenter and author, Scheckelhoff graduated from Miami University (Ohio); earned an M.A. in Education Administration and an M.B.A. from Ohio State University; and received a Ph.D. in Education Studies: Educational Leadership and Higher Education from the University of Nebraska.
"I have never seen anyone so thoroughly prepared by education and experience to take on the role of Head of School," said Dr. David H. Charlton, President of Church Schools in the Diocese of Virginia. "She has a keen ability to connect with people in a personal and engaging way.
"She has such a deep love and passion for the education of girls and young women that she has dedicated her life to this mission and is clearly the perfect fit to lead St. Catherine's into the next decade."
Scheckelhoff and her husband Kevin have a daughter Hannah who is a first year law student at George Washington University and a son Hale who is a freshman at Miami University in Ohio.
Scheckelhoff expects to visit the campus in the months to come to further connect with the faculty and students as well as the rest of the St. Catherine's community.
     Already, she feels at home.
"Once I had an opportunity to experience first-hand the magic that happens in the classroom between faculty members and students and the strong support from alumnae and parents, I knew that I had found my next home," Scheckelhoff said.
