It is the philosophy of the Dance Department that all students possess the ability to communicate artistically through movement, thus St. Catherine’s offers a comprehensive program to support and foster skills in the areas of creative dramatics, dance and choreography. The dance curriculum is carefully designed to enhance a student’s understanding of movement concepts through exploration, collaboration, performance and analysis. Students are challenged through multidimensional activities that stimulate the creative process and engage body, mind and spirit. The department seeks to provide a safe and comfortable dance environment where the unique talents of each individual are recognized, celebrated and appropriately cultivated.
A variety of dance course offerings and performance opportunities exist in all three divisions of the School. Students engage and interact through movement, learning multiple dance and styles from different eras and cultures. Our Middle and Upper School ensembles perform regularly, participating in both School and community events. Dancers also have many opportunities to contribute to the spiritual life of St. Catherine's. Liturgical dance is woven regularly into weekly chapels and worship services. There are also multiple opportunities to serve through our dance outreach initiatives. St. Catherine's is particularly proud of our strong partnership with Miracles In Motion Dance Studio and we work to support this and other unique dance education programs by sharing resources and providing student services.
