School Receives Grant from DuPont for Energy Saving Efforts

St. Catherine's received a $59,000 grant from the foundation.
St. Catherine’s received a $59,000 grant from the DuPont Foundation through the Jessie Ball duPont Fund's Energy Initiative Grant Program.
Since 2009, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund has been on a mission to help schools, primarily colleges, reduce the amount of energy that is consumed on campus. The Fund has urged college presidents, administrators, faculty and students to track and monitor energy use, to develop institutional plans to manage energy use, and to invest in retrofits that increase energy efficiency.
St. Catherine’s will use the money to enhance the energy saving efforts already in place, including 600 solar panels.
“We will use these funds to augment our environmental strategy by implementing specific building electrical utility metering (sub-meters) including a real-time energy consumption dashboard package,” said Peter Pastore, St. Catherine’s Chief Financial and Operations Officer.
“This will provide us with information to educate our community for positive impact for behavior changes by our students and staff as well as ways individuals/divisions can reduce their carbon footprint by becoming more diligent on their energy usage.”
To date, 29 colleges and five independent schools (including St. Catherine’s) have received grants.
