Saints Win VISAA State Indoor Track Title

St. Catherine's captured its sixth state title in seven years.
     The Saints Indoor Track team won the VISAA state championship over the weekend. Saints coach Alden Basmajian was named VISAA Coach of the Year after earning LIS Coach of the Year honors the week before. St. Christopher's won the boys' title the same day. 
     Sophomore Madelyn Smullen was the only individual champion for the Saints, winning the pole vault title. Junior Lorelei Clelland finished second in the event and eighth grader Annie Kuhlen was fifth in the pole vault.
     Other top performances included a second place finish by junior Aseye Gatty in the triple jump. Both the 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams finished second.
     Senior Caroline Wulff finished third in the 1600 and fourth in the 3200. Junior Piper Shannon was third in the 55-meter hurdles. Freshman Kinnady Branch was fourth in the 55-meter dash and fellow freshman Makaela Johnson was sixth in the event. 
     Sophomore Annabel Bayler, eighth grader Campbell Burnett and freshman Ruthie Huffman finished fifth, sixth and seventh in the 1000 meter run. Baylor was also sixth in the 3200. Freshman Abigail McKay was sixth in the triple jump.
