St. Catherine's Welcomes New Faculty and Staff

St. Catherine’s is excited to welcome new faculty and staff to our School family for the 2018-2019 school year.
 
St. Catherine's is excited to welcome new faculty and staff — some are familiar face and some are new to our community. They come from as far away as Minnesota and Connecticut.
Lower School (age 3-grade 4)
Julie Coleman will be teaching dance to early learners, junior kindergarten, kindergarten and grade 1. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Radford University. She teaches at a private school for dance in Midlothian and also taught dance at St. Christopher’s Extended Day after school program. A contemporary dancer with eight years of teaching experience, Ms. Coleman will be teaching Joni Fusion for grades 5-8.
 
Lara Coughlan will join the fourth grade team. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Arizona State University. She has a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Richmond. She was the Enrichment Resource Coordinator and Advanced Math and Reading teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School before teaching Grades 3 and 4 at Good Shepherd Episcopal School.
 
Karyn Iuorno may be a familiar face to many because she was a long-term substitute in the JK program last year and is now a JK co-teacher. She attended Albany Academy for Girls and completed her undergraduate degree at Syracuse University. Karyn holds a Master of Science in Teaching from Le Moyne College and has achieved dual certification in elementary and special education. Karyn is a St. Catherine's parent of two daughters, Ella in grade 6 and Sophia in grade 4.
 
Caroline Kilby joins our kindergarten team after first becoming part of our Saints community as an assistant JV2 lacrosse coach. Caroline received her Bachelor of Science degree from Lynchburg College where she majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in elementary education. She just completed her Master of Education at the University of Richmond. Since graduating from Lynchburg, Caroline has taught pre-kindergarten and kindergarten in Maryland and Chesterfield County.
 
Robin Seabolt received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Since 2003, Robin has been a substitute at St. Catherine’s, serving as a long-term substitute for many of our teachers. She has worked in all grade levels, as well as with our resource teachers, and has received training in Singapore Math and Orton-Gillingham, a multisensory approach to teaching reading, spelling and writing. She is well prepared to be our shared teacher and serve as an additional resource to our classroom teachers.
 
Kimberly Stansell, who will teach kindergarten, received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, as well as her Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Longwood University. She has taught at Rudlin Torah Academy since 2010, teaching a range of grade levels including serving as their Resource Specialist for the past two years. She also taught kindergarten and fifth grade in the Hanover Public School system prior to her tenure at Rudlin Torah.
 
 
Middle School (grades 5-8)
Julie Coleman will be teaching Joni Fusion for grades 5-8. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Radford University. She teaches at a private school for dance in Midlothian and also taught dance at St. Christopher’s Extended Day after school program. A contemporary dancer with eight years of teaching experience, Ms. Coleman will also teach dance to early learners, junior kindergarten, kindergarten and grade 1. 
 
Julie Elmore will teach grade 8 English. Many of you will know Mrs. Elmore as one of our excellent field hockey and lacrosse coaches. She is also an excellent teacher who has taught English for 10 years. In her free time, she is a passionate yoga instructor. Mrs. Elmore and her husband are ready to say Namaste to their new baby boy due at the end of October. See news of her maternity leave substitute, Faithe Norrell, below.
 
Leslie Harshfield is coming back to Virginia after teaching Middle School Spanish for 25 years in Connecticut. She will teach grades 5-6 Spanish. Please be sure to say "Buenos días" when you see her!
 
Faithe Norrell is the maternity leave substitute for grade 8. Ms. Norrell as a member of our community and parent to Liza Mickens '15. Ms. Norrell is a PK-8 certified teacher and PK-12 librarian and media specialist who has taught in the District of Columbia, Louisiana, Maryland, California and Virginia. A 30-year veteran teacher, Ms. Norrell is also an artist who has exhibited her work around the Greater Richmond area. Ms. Norrell will be working closely with Mrs. Elmore prior to Mrs. Elmore’s maternity leave for a seamless curricular transition for grade eight students.
 
Lisa Overmyer will lead the Middle School Band Ensembles and teach grades 5-7 Music. As a percussion specialist, Ms. Overmyer loves to make swelling sounds! She has worked with school bands, marching bands and instrumental music classes during her 25 years as a middle school music teacher.
 
Upper School (grades 9-12)
Tiffany Bernstein will teach Upper School Health. Tiffany attended Liberty University and holds an R.N. from Southside Regional School of Nursing. She is a mother of four and has served as a nurse manager at Tuckahoe Orthopedics, and a labor and delivery nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. Recently, Tiffany has worked as a substitute nurse at St. Catherine’s.

Ray Googe joined the College Counseling team in July as their new Assistant. Ray most recently worked for the Richmond City Health District as a project coordinator. He has also worked at WVEC-TV in Norfolk and at the Church Hill Activities and Tutoring program. Ray has a Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Communication from the University of Richmond.

Savannah Mathre will be teaching Math at both the Upper School and Middle School levels. Savannah holds a Master of Education in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota. She has taught math since 2011 at the Hmong College Prep Academy in St. Paul, Minn.

Savannah Salter ’12 will be teaching History at St. Catherine’s this year. Savannah received her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of South Carolina and her Master of Secondary Social Studies Curriculum and Instruction from the College of William & Mary. She taught at Cape Henry Collegiate School during the 2017-2018 school year.
