Saints Win Three LIS Titles in Less Than 24 Hours

Lacrosse, Soccer and Track all captured LIS championships.
In a period spanning less than 24 hours, St. Catherine’s added three new LIS trophies to the trophy case. The Saints won league titles in lacrosse, soccer and track.
On Friday, both lacrosse and soccer won their titles — on side-by-side fields within minutes of each other. Then, on Saturday track defended their League of Independent Schools (LIS) title with a victory at Sportsbackers Stadium.
Lacrosse started it by holding off a late rallying Collegiate for the 11-10 victory at St. Catherine’s Goochland fields. It marked the program’s first LIS title in 22 years.
Soccer also beat Collegiate, but it took penalty kicks. Both teams were scoreless through regulation, then through the two 10 minute overtime periods. The Saints won 6-5 in penalty kicks.
Track dominated the competition scoring 183 points. Collegiate with second place with 150 points. Sophomore Jailah Channer was named the meet's overall Most Valuable athlete as well as the Most Valuable Field performer. She won the long jump, high jump and 4x100m relay. Fellow sophomore Willa Shannon was named Most Valuable Runner of the meet. She won the 100m hurdles. Coach Sherry Edwards was named league coach of the year.
Saints athletes and parents continued the celebration on Monday with a special tribute in front of the house of Director of Athletics Julie Dayton.
