Ali Doswell ‘13 Named Saints Basketball Coach

Ali Doswell, a former Saints standout and Hall of Fame inductee, will lead the St. Catherine's Varsity Basketball Team.
Ali Doswell will take over as the Saints Varsity Basketball Head Coach, St. Catherine’s Athletics announced this week.
Doswell, a 2013 graduate of St. Catherine’s, was a standout basketball player for the Saints. She surpassed 1,000 career points her senior year en route to the LIS conference title. Doswell is the all-time assist leader at St. Catherine’s (422), second all-time leading scorer (1178 points) behind her sister Meredith and second all-time steals (300). Beyond St. Catherine’s, she was named the Division III Basketball Player of the Year after leading her Amherst College team to the NCAA Division III national title.
Doswell was Associate Head Coach with Ed Sherod last season and has served as an Assistant Coach with the Saints for two seasons. She also coached cross country and track last year.
“I feel extremely fortunate and grateful to be named the head coach of a program that means so much to me,” said Doswell, who was inducted into the Saints Athletic Hall of Fame last month. “St. Catherine’s School, the athletics department and the basketball program under Coach Sherod have all played significant roles in shaping the player that I became and the person that I am today.”
Doswell wants the Saints to contend for LIS titles and make a statement in VISAA state tournament play. The Saints were 10-9 last season, losing in the first round of both the LIS and VISAA tournaments and graduate just one senior.
“The first word that comes to mind when I think about the future of Saints basketball is potential,” Doswell said. “We have an incredibly well-rounded group of student-athletes in this program. On the current varsity team, we have upperclassmen who have developed into tremendous leaders and younger players on the team ready to contribute and make an immediate impact. When you’re around this group, you can’t help but feel a buzzing drive for greatness.”
Doswell replaces Sherod, who will serve the Saints as Director of Player Development. Sherod developed one of the top programs in the LIS over his 21 years coaching the Saints, finishing with an overall 270-131 record, two LIS titles, 17 state tournament appearances and seven student-athletes who continued playing basketball in college.
“Coach Sherod’s impact on me as a person, player, and coach is hard to put into words,” Doswell said. “Witnessing Coach Sherod’s coaching impact firsthand is the reason I’ve wanted to be a head coach. I am honored and thrilled to continue his incredible legacy at St. Catherine’s.”
