St. Catherine's School announced on Friday that Caitlin Brooks will coach the Saints varsity lacrosse team starting this spring.
Brooks is currently the Associate Director of Athletics, varsity lacrosse coach and varsity field hockey coach at Sanford School in Hockessin, Del. and boasts 10 years of experience as a varsity lacrosse coach. A Chester native, she played a variety of sports at Thomas Dale High School and played field hockey at VCU.
Brooks coached the varsity lacrosse team at Collegiate School in 2019 and remembers her meetings with the Saints.
"I recall every game against St. Catherine’s being gritty, competitive and hard-fought," Brooks said. "The players showed tenacity and poise in each showing.
"I always had a tremendous amount of respect for the St. Catherine’s student-athletes and community and I could not be more excited to join them on the field as their next coach."
Brooks has previous experience coaching varsity lacrosse, field hockey and basketball and teaching at different independent schools. She graduated from VCU with a B.S. in Science in Health and Human Performance.
Although lacrosse opportunities were limited when she was growing up, Brooks quickly fell in love with the sport. She attends conferences around the nation and is involved in US Lacrosse Professional Development.
"Lacrosse is my passion and I fell in love with it from the minute I first saw the sport," she said.
The Saints ended the 2021 season with a 7-5 record, losing in the LIS championship game. The Saints won the LIS title in 2019 before losing the 2020 season to the pandemic.
Brooks replaces Susan Taliaferro, who stepped down last spring to spend more time with her family. She met with the varsity captains earlier this week.
