St. Catherine's Junior Speaks at UN Event

Noor Samee recited an origial poem during a press conference with UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham.
Junior Noor Samee was a special invited guest at United Nations’ Sustainable Development Summit 2015 in New York in late September. She spoke at a press event featuring UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham, shared messages about the event on social media for UNICEF and the UN and was followed for a special behind the scenes film that also features Ban Ki-moon, secretary-general of the United Nations.
“I honestly couldn't choose one highlight from the event, everything was amazing,” Samee said. “However, if I were to choose, I think probably the most heart-pumping and exciting moments would be the Beckham event, transcribing the Pope’s speech, and being part of Malala Yousafzai's press conference.”
Noor recited an original poem she created during the press event with David Beckham. She joined UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake and another youth from UNICEF’s Voices of Youth initiative to unveil a unique installation, designed by Google for UNICEF, that brings the voices of young people to the heart of the United Nations General Assembly.      As a former blogger for UNICEF’s Voices of Youth, Samee worked in the "We the Peoples Digital Media Hub," powered by UNICEF, UN Millennium Campaign and UNDP. Samee wrote for the UN's various social media outlets about the event. Over the summer, Noor was one of 13 bloggers worldwide for UNICEF's Voices of Youth. She was the only high school student and only American.
UNICEF is working with a number of other UN bodies on a behind the scenes film which will feature the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, a UN translator, a UN photographer and a young person (Samee). Cameramen filmed the behind the scenes activity with all four of these people, who will somehow meet together at various points, like a UN version of the film Babel. The final film will be shown at a Mashable event as well as part of it going out in the content hub, with the final film being issued across social media/media around UN Day at the end of October.
