New Cum Laude Members Inducted

Univeristy of Richmond President Dr. Ayers spoke to Upper School students during annual Cum Laude service.
     St. Catherine’s celebrated academic achievement on Thursday morning as 16 new students members and two faculty members were inducted into the School’s chapter of Cum Laude Society. Dr. Edward Ayers, president of the University of Richmond, was the guest speaker for the service.
     The new inductees are seniors Lily Damgard, Luly Dickinson, Kitty Lambrechts, Emily Mauck, Cecilia Stone, Haley Tucker and Erin Winchester.
     Juniors inducted are: Isabelle Andrews, Joana Buck, Katie Harris, Connor Haynes, Juliana Jiranek, Aniela Macek, Belle Pace, Frances Tyler and Seeley Yoo.
     The students were joined by faculty inductions: Dr. Lara Wulff, Director of Upper School, and Dr. Seth Martin, Upper School English teacher.
     They join last year’s inductees from the Class of 2015: Charlotte Cross, Ann Nicholson, Kate Nicholson, Annabel O’Hagan, Libbie Warner, Jocelyn Wickersham and Terrell Williams.
     Cum Laude is made up of 382 chapters in the United States, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Canada, England, France and Spain. Approximately 4,000 new student members are inducted each year.
     Dr. Ayers imparted 22 practical tips to the student during his speech. He gave them “advice mcnuggets” as he called them, such as: you can never learn too much math and science; study humanities; get an education in college, not training; be quick to forgive people; learn a language and use it; get off campus; humor is the highest form of intelligence and don’t forget your parents.
