Boys & girls age 3 years–grade 12
Special Interest Camps cover everything under the brilliant summer sun. Take a deep dive into a topic you are really into and maximize your skills. Whether it’s American Girl Doll Camp or Journey through the Rainforest there is something for everyone.  Increase your STEAM expertise with classes like Ready Set Tinker, Science Lab and Enchanted Engineering. Learn how to code in Creative Coding or get a step up in scholarly pursuits with Writing the College Application Essay, and SAT Prep and so much more!

  • Art Safari

    Grab your binoculars because we are going to take a safari around the world! We will visit different countries each day and learn about native animals through literature, games, and art. Discover the thrill of the hunt without leaving camp!

  • Bug Bonanza

    Are you ready to bug out? Explore the world of bugs as you sing songs, create crafts, and complete math and reading activities focused on the lives of these crawly creatures. We’ll learn about ladybugs, bees, spiders, and many more as we have fun getting buggy!

  • Dino Discovery

    Do you know which dinosaur was nicknamed “long neck?” Do you know which dinosaur had the biggest head? Join us for a colossal journey into the world of dinosaurs. Build a dinosaur replica and have an archaeological dig just like a real paleontologist. In Dino Discovery, you will have a swamp stomping good time!

  • Enchanted Engineering

    Once upon a time our favorite story book characters found themselves in sticky situations and we can help! Through STEAM and Engineering principals, we will build a house to save the three little pigs, design pulleys and levers to help Rapunzel and much more! In this hands-on class, children will discover how they save the world and create their very own enchanted ending.

  • Journey through the Rainforest

    Did you know 6% of the earth is covered by rainforest? Slither with us through this diverse ecosystem as we explore the animals, creatures, and unique environment of the rainforest! Conduct experiments and create crafts focused on life in and below the canopy.

  • Mini Med School

    Is there a doctor in camp? Join us this summer as we bring Mini Med School to camp! Our little doctors will use stuffed animal patients to take blood pressure readings, give “stitches,” put on a cast and make their own first aid kit, all while learning lots about what doctors, dentists, EMTs and other medical professionals do daily. Join us in this fun filled camp.

  • Science Palooza

    Come discover, experiment, and create as we learn about the colliding worlds of art and science in this STEAM-based camp. We will create biomes from around the world, star gaze at constellations, master meteorology, investigate how things work and dabble in chemistry and physics. Put on your learning cap and grab the art supplies because this STEAM camp will rock your world.

  • Scientist in Training

    Take a dash of engineering and a sprinkle of earth science, toss it together with some fun and games, and you have a STEAM-based camp. Our future scientists will explore the different worlds of science through take-home creations. Join us for this exciting journey into the world of science.

  • Up-Cycled Art

  • Whiz Kids

    Join us on a science discovery mission! We will explore the world of science through everyday objects, experiments, and encounters. This camp will enhance the STEM education philosophies with a big punch of fun. Physics, biology, chemistry, geology, astronomy, and zoology will all be covered in the camp.

  • American Girl Doll Camp

    Does your child love American Girl Dolls? Then this is the camp for them! Each day we'll learn about a different AG Doll, the time period in which she and her family "lived" and explore crafts from then. We'll have fun while we create jewelry for our dolls and ourselves! The week will culminate with a tea party on Friday with food for the dolls and the campers. A fabulous week of fun for all!

  • Creative Coding

    In Codemoji's Creative Coding summer camp, students will learn the basics of coding and computer science as they are immersed in STEM activities. Students will collaborate to program robots to complete tasks, work with emojis as they dive into the Codemoji platform, and participate in offline unplugged coding activities and games. Throughout the program, students will design a website and learn to utilize their newly acquired coding skills to advance through interactive lessons. The Codemoji program will challenge your students as they advance through HTML, CSS, and JS coding basics and will promote the desire to continue their coding learning outside of the classroom.

  • Fish N’ Fun 

    This one-week fishing camp is designed to spark the interest in fishing and teach basic fishing tactics as well as get our younger campers outdoors and having fun. We fish a combination of public and private ponds and reservoirs, and will often find an hour to splash around in a local river in search of crayfish, frogs, and salamanders. Safety is our number one priority, so all campers will wear life jackets when in the water or on a boat. We maintain a 1-to-5 counselor-to-camper ratio to ensure every camper gets some one on one time each day to advance his or her skills. Virginia Outside provides all bait and tackle, rods and reels, and life jackets.

  • Girls On the Run

    Girls will build friendships in a fun and inclusive setting that includes interactive games, being physically active, and expressing creativity through art & crafts and storytelling. In camp, we explore friendships with activities designed to discover what makes a good friend and how to be a good friend to others. Girls move, build, create, write, discuss, connect and laugh all while participating in games and activities that leave them feeling confident and appreciated by their teammates.

  • Order in the Court 

    Oh, no! There are cases against the Big Bad Wolf for blowing down the pigs’ houses. Even Jack is on the stand for stealing from the giant!  Through a series of persuasive writing workshops and mock court trials, we will expand our critical thinking and consider diverse perspectives to debate these fairy tale happenings. Time to go to court!

  • Ready, Set, Tinker! 

    Research, explore, tinker, repeat! Your camper will connect new science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) concepts with literature.   • Adventure Fishing 

    Our day camp for 9-14 year olds is designed to teach the entire process of fishing from rigging rods, tying knots, baiting hooks, to driving boats with trolling motors, all while introducing campers to the great wealth of fishing opportunities the area has to offer. We have access to some great private ponds where campers are assured success and will split our time between the ponds and the James River where we will chase down our own river monsters, flathead and blue catfish up to 30 lbs right here in the city.

    Explore how different personality traits guide career selection. Students will complete personality surveys and then explore suggested fields. In the process, students will select a field of interest, create a professional resume, and contact a professional in the respective field. During this course, students will hone professional writing skills- resume and professional emails. In addition, students will hear from women in various fields.

  • Code It!

    Codemoji’s Code It! summer camp's mission is simple: teach students to enjoy all things related to coding and the web while building problem solving and creative thinking skills. Our teachers deliver clear and entertaining instruction to ensure students have fun while learning complex coding skills using emojis that represent HTML text, which lowers the barriers to new coders and increases their excitement and understanding of computer science. Students build animations, websites, and video games; explore multiple coding languages; program robots; create STEM-based projects both on and offline, and are encouraged to share their projects when they get home.

    Are you interested in fostering a community of service and empathy? This hands-on camp focuses on the contributions of our community members - firemen, postal workers, nurses and many more. Are you ready to go on an adventure to race against the clock to solve fun and interactive puzzles and decode passages, riddles, and clues to break out of English Language Arts (ELA) Escape/ Breakout Rooms? Each day your learning environment will be transformed to take you on a fun adventure, to include making inferences to escape the game of Jumanji or fall down the rabbit hole to decipher the figurative language in an Alice and Wonderland theme. While working in teams on fun adventures, you’ll strengthen your reading skills and learn new reading strategies to help you become an avid reader and critical thinker.

    This course prepares students for safe motor vehicle operation. Students will receive endorsement for driver education, meeting state mandated requirements for the classroom phase.  Attendance is mandatory.

    In this 8 hour class, students will become familiar with the SAT test content and structure. SAT testing strategies will be taught and reinforced. Skills will be reviewed in class and students will have the opportunity to complete 3 practice tests for homework to review and reinforce skills and strategies. Four two hour sessions. Materials provided.
