Saints Win State Cross Country Title

Junior Hannah Ballowe won the individual title at the VISAA state championship at Woodberry Forest.
Saints cross country athletes ran some of their best times of the season to capture the VISAA State cross country title over the weekend. St. Catherine’s was projected to finish third. The Saints scored 63 points. Collegiate was second with 72 and Bishop O’Connell finished third with 108 points.
Junior Hannah Ballowe ran a school record 19:17 on the Woodberry Forest course to win the individual race, almost one full minute ahead of the second place finisher.
In total, six states finished in the top 30: Anne Heaton Noble (fifth), Julia Galbraith (eighth), Julia Palumbo (21st), Anne-Gamble Jennings (28th and Jessica Parry (30th). Ballowe, Noble and Galbraith earned all-state honors.
The state title marked the program’s first since 2014 and 11th state cross title overall.  The Saints won the LIS title the previous week at Fort Union Military Academy.
