Faculty and Staff Inspired by Diversity Training

Activist Yewande Austin presented to faculty and staff about diversity on Monday.
St. Catherine’s faculty and staff continue to seek opportunities to learn more about teaching girls and providing the best environment for learning at St. Catherine’s. On Monday all faculty and staff joined together to hear from Yewande Austin on the topic of diversity and inclusion.
Austin’s socially charged music has taken center stage with the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Maroon 5 and India.Arie. She also is an award-winning lecturer, activist and honorary U. S. Cultural Ambassador. This 2017 President Barack Obama Volunteer Service Award honoree, 2015 TED speaker and 2014 CNN Hero Award nominee has dedicated her life to confronting some of the world’s greatest challenges.
Since 2004, her capacity building company, the Global Institute for Diversity and Change has trained students and professionals alike how to create inclusive communities that promote diversity, leadership and social responsibility.
Austin was named a 2016-2017 Globe Faculty Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University. During this appointment, she created a 3-credit course called “The Art of Change.”
