Taylor Allen '16 sets Sweet Briar College Record

 Taylor Allen's record setting night set the pace for Sweet Briar College on the second day of the ODAC Swimming Championships. With two-thirds of the competition complete, SBC sits in sixth place with 122 points.

After helping the Vixens' 200 medley relay team to a sixth-place finish to begin the Saturday evening finals, Allen was back in the pool for the next event, the 400-yard IM. The first-year put together her best performance of the year, setting a new school record on her way to All-ODAC Second Team honors with a third-place finish in a time of 4:48.65.Her time beat the previous record set 34 years ago by Karen Fennessy. Allen shattered the old record, 4:53.14, by nearly five seconds.

Later in the evening, Allen was back in the pool for the 100-yard breaststroke A finals. The Richmond native brought home sixth place in a time of 1:10.61. Allen's time was four one-hundredths of a second away from breaking that event record, set at least year's conference championships by Mary Stuart McDevitt.McDevitt swam in the 100 breast B finals and claimed third place, stopping the clock at 1:11.86.

Sophomore Caroline Thomas represented Sweet Briar in the 100 back B final and first-year Brianna Garcia had a strong showing for SBC in the 400 IM B final.
