Record-Breaking Day for Saints Athletes

School records fell in the pool and on the track Saturday afternoon.
Saturday was a record-breaking day for Saints athletes — in the pool and on the track.
In the pool, junior Grace Wielar broke her own School record in the 200 freestyle by three seconds and broke the five-year-old LIS meet record. She also broke a seven-year-old School record in the 100-butterfly by beating defending LIS champion and meet record holder Meghan Burton. Wielar set a new LIS record in that event as well.
En route to the LIS title on Saturday, Saints swimmers dropped their times for the season in 40 out of the 44 events and 11 new State cuts were made.
On the track, two School indoor relay records fell at the Liberty Invitational. The 4x200 relay team of freshmen Willa Shannon and Archer Gurkin and seniors Eryn Carlisle and Emma Ballantyne set a new record with a time of 1.46.1.
Gurkin, Carlisle and Ballantyne were all three part of the second record-setting relay of the day. They were joined by sophomore Hannah Ballowe on the 4x400 relay team. The new school record was set with a time of 3.59.9. The relay team also qualified for nationals.
