Sixth Graders Showcase Global Expertise
Each year sixth graders hold the World Experts Fair.
Sixth graders showcased their expertise on specific countries during the annual World Experts Fair held last week. The Fair is the culmination of a project is multi-disciplinary.
This year 39 countries were represented by 79 girls. Several chosen because of the women leaders in their governments either currently (Chile, Croatia, Germany, Liberia, Nepal, Norway, Poland, UK) or former women leaders (Australia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Pakistan, South Korea).
Geography, English, Thinking Skills and Technology classes specifically hosted or directly engaged in the project. Other classes and teachers were engaged as students made personal interest choices based on their UN Global Goal.
Some of the required elements for the project include:
- A detailed Google website providing rich information & images
- A hand drawn map displaying major cities, natural & manmade features and neighboring countries
- A visual display of colorful images that captures the essence of its landscape, resources and the people
- A take-away item provided at the Fair that offers visitors an authentic experience of the country’s unique identity
- An “Expert’s Choice” creation of the students' design that involves art, music, dance, personal correspondence, statistical graphs/images or a "Game of Life" of a 12-year-old girl of that country country
- Attire representing a native person and animal, plant or natural feature of the country
- Two United Nations Global Goals describing in detail the positive or negative ways they are experienced in the country and the students' personal opinions about these issues
