Lower School Robotics Team Qualifies for VA-DC Championship Tournament at JMU

The fourth grade Robo-Girls qualified for the state First Lego League tournament in December.
     The fourth grade robotics team, 1841 Robo-Girls, advanced to the Champion's Tournament at JMU on Dec. 10 following a stellar performance at the First Lego League Regional Qualifying tournament at Maggie Walker Governor's School over the weekend.
     Robo-Girls won second place for Division I in the Robot Game with the second-highest score of 215 points. They also won the first place Champion's Award in Division I for doing well in all areas of the competition, robot game, robot design, core values and research project.
     1841 Robo-Girls Team Members: Gabby Addei, Meriwether Logue, Hazel McGeorge, Livi Menees, Bradleigh Oakley, Margaret Stewart and Alice Westbrook.
     Three other St. Catherine’s robotics teams competed on Sunday as well. 
     The STEM Saints, a fifth grade team, won the Core Values Award at the Maggie Walker Regional Tournament. They also came in third on the competition table.  
     The sixth grade Solar Sisters team won first place in Division 2 in the Innovation Project Award category.
     The eighth grade team, the Hydro Pithons, scored the third-highest score on the table for Division II. They challenged themselves to program their robot in Python. 
     Five more St. Catherine’s robotics teams (grades 4-8) will compete this weekend in Regional Qualifying tournaments.
