Observing Bees

AP Environmental Science students are preparing for an Apiary at the School's Goochland campus.
AP Environmental Science students observed beehives today in preparation for installing an Apiary at St. Catherine's Goochland campus.
The students learned about the bee culture including the life cycle, the role of the queen bee and more while observing hives located near campus.
The installation of the Apiary is planned to take place over the next few months with bees arriving in the spring. The new Beekeeping program will connect curriculum across all three divisions including chemistry, ecology, zoology, nutrition, biology, math and psychology.
Upper School Science Teacher Jennifer Harper is heading up the effort. She has researched a variety of schools with Beekeeping programs and worked on the proposal and plans.
