Young Engineers Receive New Challenge

Middle School girls will create a bionic flower after creating a bionic fish last year.
Last spring three Middle School girls created a bionic fish that they later tested in the Kenny Center pool. This year, the trio of girls received a bionic flower kit from Festo Didactic and the Transatlantic Outreach Program. They will construct the new kit and then test it as part of their involvement in robotics at St. Catherine's.
This relationship stemmed from a previous STEM Summer professional development completed by fifth grade science teacher Katherine Mangum. She worked with a teacher from West Point High school to highlight solar energy by sharing engineering design challenges - for elementary through high school - the challenges were inspired by our experiences in two of Germany's most sustainable communities: Feldheim and Freiburg.
Part of the STEM study tour was a virtual workshop in cooperation with Festo Didactic/Festo Didactic North America, the company that provided the kits for our students.
