New Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon Activated

The new traffic control device is located at Grove Avenue and Somerset.
In partnership with St. Catherine's, the Department of Public Works activated Richmond's first-ever Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon earlier today on Grove Avenue at Somerset in front of campus. The new traffic control device is designated to help pedestrians and cyclists cross a variety of roads and intersections.
The beacon head consists of two red lenses above a single yellow lens. The lenses remain “Dark” until a pedestrian pushes the call button to activate the beacon.
Members of our security team will continue to support students crossing Grove Avenue during morning and afternoon carpool.
Please be aware of the new signal when traveling on Grove Avenue!
