A Message From the Head of School

Dear St. Catherine's Community,

It is a sad week in America. I write to you with a heavy heart as I struggle to find the words that adequately convey the weight of my sadness over the loss of life. Across the nation and in our own City of Richmond, unrest and violence have followed and many are hurting.

The strength of community has long been a cornerstone of our School. When one of us hurts, we all hurt. To our African American students, families, faculty, staff, and alumnae, we hurt with you. I wish that we were not separated by distance so that we could come together during this difficult time.

In the words of Rev. Michael B. Curry, presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, “Now is the time to commit to cherishing and respecting all lives, and to honoring the dignity and infinite worth of every child of God. Now is the time for all of us to show — in our words, our actions, and our lives — what love really looks like."

We stand today with a renewed commitment to prepare girls of diverse perspectives for a lifetime of learning, leadership, and service. We will further advance our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts — to do the hard work to promote and encourage crucial conversations. We will do all of this important work with great heart in order to ensure that every girl feels supported and loved.

Sincerely yours,

Terrie Hale Scheckelhoff, Ph.D.
