The Show Must Go On
Fourthies performed their play from their homes and shared a special tradition with seniors.
It is a spring tradition for fourth graders, the oldest students in the Lower School, to perform a special play and sing a song as a tribute to the seniors.
The stay at home order did not stop them this year.
The girls received their parts in the play and their scripts, which was the "Lion King" this year, before Spring Break. But then the school year was canceled and the plans had to quickly be changed.
The girls learned their lines, dances, songs and even created their masks from home under the guidance of music teacher Jennifer Ivens, dance teacher Ashley Wyatt and art teacher Jacque Minarik as well as their homeroom teachers.
The students then performed their individual parts at home and sent in the recordings, which were edited by St. Catherine's faculty and staff with the assistance of a sound technician for the songs.
The play was shown to seniors earlier today followed by the traditional singing of “I Saw A Ship A-Sailing” between the seniors and Lower School girls (just the fourthies this year). Students first composed the words to “I Saw A Ship A-Sailing” in the 1940s. Lower School students will be invited to watch the play next week.
