Zinkavich Named Varsity Field Hockey Coach

Former Penn State standout Annie Zinkavich will coach the Saints field hockey team.
St. Catherine’s School announced that Annie Zinkavich will serve as the Varsity Field Hockey Coach starting in the fall.
Zinkavich boasts high-level experience as both an athlete and coach. She was a standout goalkeeper at Penn State, earning All-American honors and helping lead the Nittany Lions to the National Championship game her junior year. Zinkavich began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Bucknell before moving back to her alma mater as the goalkeeper coach for four seasons. She also worked as an assistant coach at UVA, VCU and Longwood. Zinkavich has coached at the national level with USA Field Hockey and is currently the Co-Director for Panthers United Field Hockey Club in Richmond.
“I am humbled and honored to be named the new head field hockey coach at St. Catherine’s,” Zinkavich said. “They have a rich history of success and I am excited to bring my passion and energy to the hockey team and the school community.”
Zinkavich is looking forward to coaching at Dayton Field, which boasts an Astroturf water-based field. St. Catherine’s is one of only a few high schools in Virginia with this type of field, which is also used at the international level.
The Saints ended the 2019 season with a 12-8-2 record, losing to Trinity Episcopal in both the LIS and state championship games.
Zinkavich replaces Don Warner, who stepped down after 25 seasons of leading the Saints in order to support the School’s strength and conditioning program full time. He will continue teaching Physical Education in all three divisions. Warner boasted a record of 341-152-33, winning four state titles and four LIS titles.
