Fifth Graders Publish Books

The fifth graders wrote their book books, which were then printed.
Fifth graders can now call themselves published authors.
As part of the fifth grade Library Skills class the girls created a concept, wrote and designed books that were then printed. The books spanned a variety of genres and boasted titles such as The Keypad, The Other Side, Falling, Lucky and All Your Dreams.
The students first pitched their story ideas to "publisher" Bianca Spurlock (Upper and Middle School Librarian). She worked with the girls to edit their books. The students also designed the covers, wrote a prologue, author's bio and book synopsis.
Some books were published as ebooks and other students created a teaser for their book. The girls saw their finished books for the first time today.
Spurlock first created the project last year as a way for the students to appreciate the process of creating a book. This is the first year the books were printed.
