Librarian Delivers Keynote

Courtney Lewis presented at the Library Instruction Round Table at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Seattle.
    Courtney Lewis, St. Catherine's Director of Library Services and Innovative Research, was a keynote presenter at the Library Instruction Round Table at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Seattle. The conference session was "Are Students Actually Ready for College Research?"
     Lewis' co-presenter was Sara Kelley-Mudie, the Library Director at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass., replicated some of Lewis' original research about perceptions from first-year academic librarians of needed key skills and professor demands of freshmen college students. Lewis and Kelley-Mudie then presented data as well as some in-class instruction and best practices for librarians at all levels to build confidence and skills in grades 5-12 to get students ready for the realistic demands of college research. 
     The conference brought together more than 80 academic, public, and high school librarians from around the country.
