A week after a Saints sweep at the Prep League/LIS championships, St. Christopher’s and St. Catherine’s followed up with a pair of state titles at the VISAA indoor track and field championships at St. Christopher’s on Saturday.
St. Christopher’s earned its second title in three years, while St. Catherine’s clinched its third championship in a row.
St. Christopher’s scored 114.5 points, outlasting frequent-champion Fork Union Military Academy (99). Collegiate totaled 74.5 for third place.
Elby Omohundro won the triple jump and finished second in the high jump, second in the 55-meter hurdles and third in the long jump. St. Christopher’s 4x800-meter relay team added a victory, as well as Ian Smith in the 1,000 meters.
Collegiate’s Josh Spivey won the 500 meters with a time of 1:07.53.
St. Catherine’s faced little resistance in its title run, totaling 175.5 points. Collegiate finished runner-up with 80.
Hannah Ballowe, a Virginia Tech pledge, won the 1,000 and 1,600 — her third straight year going 2-for-2 in the distance events. Jailah Channer topped both the long jump and high jump.
Willa Shannon (100-meter hurdles), Anjali Mead (pole vault) and Parker Longood (triple jump) each added individual titles. Victories in two relays rounded out the Saints’ dominant weekend.
