Students Earn Arts and Writing Awards

St. Catherine's Middle School and Upper School students were honored with Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards.
     St. Catherine’s received a total of 57 recognitions in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards. The Richmond community received 2,700 entries in art and 435 entries in writing, from which St. Catherine's talented students in grades 7-12 were awarded 43 arts awards and 14 writing awards.
     Eighth Grader Ala Killen received eight total recognitions including two Gold Keys in Photography and one Gold Key in Writing. Eighth grader Mary Schroeder also received awards in both categories, including a Gold Key in Photography.
     A show of Gold and Silver Key artworks will be held at The Visual Arts Center of Richmond from February 16-March 2.  Honorable mention artworks will be projected or displayed on a screen. Gold Key winners of art and writing are currently being judged in New York and national awards will be announced on March 12.
     Over the past 90 years, the Awards have recognized and encouraged artists and writers such as Sylvia Plath, Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Tom Otterness, Zac Posen, among countless others.
