Richmond Times-Dispatch Girls athlete of the year: Cara Menges, St. Catherine’s field hockey, basketball and soccer

Trinity Episcopal's Armando Bacot and St. Catherine's Cara Menges named Times-Dispatch athletes of the year

Menges is one of the few players to win first-team All-Metro honors in two sports. Even more rare, she achieved the feat in back-to-back seasons, as a junior and senior. In each year, she was named All-Metro in field hockey and soccer.
But Menges isn’t just a two-sport athlete. She plays basketball, too, and she averaged 11 points during her senior season.
In field hockey, she scored 14 goals and added six assists, and St. Catherine’s reached the state semifinals. In soccer, she played a significant role on the offense, and St. Catherine’s reached the state final.
Menges will suit up for the William and Mary field hockey team next year.

Runners-up: Jada Boyd (Appomattox Regional GS) and Britton Wilson (Mills Godwin track and field)
Past girls athletes of the year: 2017: Megan Walker (Monacan basketball); 2016: Megan Walker (Monacan basketball); 2015: Taja Cole (L.C. Bird basketball); 2014: Dorothy Adomako (Cosby girls basketball)
Athletes of the year chosen by: Weldon Bradshaw, Charlie Broaddus, Billy Fellin, Jonathan Howard, Eric Kolenich, Dave Lawrence, Tim Pearrell and Arthur Utley.
