Upper School Speak Up Club Brings Positivity

Club members recently participated in the SpeakUp5K.
Earlier this week, Upper Schoolers attended a virtual club fair to learn more about the many clubs offered at St. Catherine's. One club, the Speak Up Club, already participated in an activity as they did the Speak Up 5K earlier this month.
Seniors Saayeh Zarei and Jacqueline Herrera have co-headed the Speak Up club at St. Catherine's for two years with Dr. Karen Brockenbrough as their advisor. Each week they send "check-in" emails to Upper School students and faculty as a way to start off the week with positive vibes. During their meetings, the students discuss gratitude happy moments. The club also sponsors a No Phone Day to encourage people to be in the moment.
SpeakUp first started as a 5K race in honor of Cameron Gallagher, a local teenager who died after running the Shamrock Half Marathon. The mission of the group is "to fulfill Cameron’s dream and legacy by being a positive force that works to cultivate awareness and understanding of teenage depression and anxiety." The St. Catherine's Speak Up Club meets with CKG Foundation periodically.
Middle Schools students and faculty also participated in the SpeakUp5K as part of the joint community service with St. Christopher's.
