Lexus of Richmond's 24th Leadership Award Week 29: Julia Galbraith

Senior Julia Galbraith is the school's third honoree this year.
     Our week 29 nominee for the Lexus of Richmond Leadership Award Scholarship is Julia Galbraith of St. Catherine’s School. Julia has been awarded the Aiesi Scholarship Award and the Pinckney Scholarship Award, both from St. Catherine’s. The two scholarships are based on merit, character, and leadership qualities. Julia has received National Honors for her efforts on the Youth Chinese Test for four years in a row. She is a participant in the Intensive Studies Program at St. Catherines where she focuses on STEM courses; Julia is building a robot for her capstone project in this program.  She was chosen to attend the Science Museum of VA STEM Conferences twice in 2017. In 2018 Julia was selected to attend the GAINS STEM Conference in New York. Julia has held a Biotechnology Internship and Pediatric Emergency Room Internship both at VCU.
     While at St. Catherine’s, Julia has been one member of only ten students in the Honor Council since freshman year. Throughout her high school years, Julia has been a Student Ambassador giving tours to prospective students and faculty. She became a Peer Advisor as a junior, and she is currently the Co-President. As a sophomore Julia joined both the Chinese Club and Medical Club; she is the current Co-President of the Medical Club. Julia has also spent time as a youth soccer league referee, and she has been a lifeguard for organizations like the Philadelphia Quarry, St. Catherine’s and Douglas Aquatics.
     In her time at St. Catherine’s, Julia has participated with several teams. She has been on the Varsity Indoor Track team since freshman year. Julia was selected for the All Metro team in 2017 and 2018. At the All League of Independent Schools tournament, she placed 1st in the 3200m in 2017. While at States, Julia has finished 3rd in the 1600m in 2017 and 2019 as well as 3rd in the 3200m in 2017, 2018 and 2019. As part of the 4×800 relay team Julia helped set a new school record during her senior season; the relay team finished 3rd at New Balance Nationals in 2019. As a 2 season member of the Cross Country team, Julia was a Captain for her senior year. She was All LIS and All State in 2017 and 2018. Julia has been on the Varsity Soccer team since 8th grade, and she was on the Varsity Field Hockey team as a sophomore. She has been on a total of 8 State Championship teams. In the fall Julia will continue her running career as a part of the United States Naval Academy cross country and track teams.
     Throughout her high school years Julia has participated in numerous service projects. For the past four years she has assisted with the Jacob’s Chance Organization by helping youth with special needs in athletics. She volunteered at the Science Museum of Virginia by working with 3D printers to build handicapped accessible exhibits. Julia spent 15 volunteer hours with Full STEAM Ahead which is an event for middle school girls in STEM. She has also spent additional time with elementary girls at her school in STEM projects and activities. Julia has volunteered for her brother to help him complete his Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Project. She has spent 35 hours volunteering for races through: Richmond Road Runners, Endorphin Fitness, and Sports Backers. Julia has also given her time to Housing Families First, Caritas, Stop Hunger Now, Safe Haven, and Colonial Heights Food Pantry.
     Julia has won a dinner for two and is now in the running for the $10,000 scholarship.
