Courtney Lewis, St. Catherine's Director of Library Services and Innovative Research, was a keynote presenter at the Library Instruction Round Table at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Seattle. The conference session was "Are Students Actually Ready for College Research?" Lewis' co-presenter was Sara Kelley-Mudie, the Library Director at Thayer Academy in Braintree, Mass., replicated some of Lewis' original research about perceptions from first-year academic librarians of needed key skills and professor demands of freshmen college students. Lewis and Kelley-Mudie then presented data as well as some in-class instruction and best practices for librarians at all levels to build confidence and skills in grades 5-12 to get students ready for the realistic demands of college research.
The conference brought together more than 80 academic, public, and high school librarians from around the country.
